This recipe introduces a simple potato pancake recipe that only requires potatoes, cooking oil, and salt.
Grind the potatoes using a blender or grater, remove excess water, season with salt, and cook in a frying pan to complete the dish.
This recipe is recommended for those who want to enjoy a Korean flavor or for those who want to easily enjoy Korean food abroad.
A box of potatoes
I recently bought a small box of potatoes. There are so many potato dishes out there.
Simply steamed potatoes
Potato stir-fry
French fries
Potato pancake
Potato salad
Potato soup
Potato chips
Potato gratin
Potato sandwich
Roasted potatoes
And so on.
But still, nothing screams Korean like a potato pancake, right?!
So, today, I'm going to make a potato pancake. It's super easy, so even if you're overseas, you can easily make it at home.
Today's Dish: Potato Pancake
Ingredients: Potatoes, cooking oil, salt
Optional ingredients: Red pepper, green onion (spring onion, chives, doesn't matter)
Tools: Grater if you don't have a blender, strainer
※ 6 potatoes yielded 2 potato pancakes.
How to Make Potato Pancake
1. Peel the potatoes.
2. Blend the peeled potatoes in a blender. If you don't have a blender, grate them.
The handle on the left is not a handle, but a spoon is inserted to create space
3. Strain the blended potatoes.
In other words, drain the water. Wait about 20 minutes to drain the water.
Don't discard the drained water at this point.
4. Mix the strained potato mixture and the starch remaining in the drained water.
5. Season with a little salt. Since you can dip it in soy sauce, it's better not to add too much salt to avoid it being too salty.
You can put it in the frying pan with a ladle
6. Now... pour the blended potato mixture into the frying pan.
It's good to spread it wide
7. Pour a little cooking oil around the edges. Then, swirl it around to distribute it evenly.
8. The timing to flip it is when you lift the frying pan and shake it, and it starts to come off. Flip it at that point.
9. Cook until it's nicely browned and it's done!
10. Haha, I tried topping it with green onions... but it doesn't look good. I've seen people decorate it with red pepper in the middle, like a snowman. It still looks like a snowman. But it tastes great with kimchi or soy sauce.
Even overseas, you can easily make it with just potatoes, cooking oil, and salt! Korean style~! Highly recommended.
