Korean Movie Title: Pamyo
English Title: Exhuma
I generally dislike scary movies. I can't stand the dark atmosphere, jump scares, or scenes with ghosts. However, the movie 'Pamyo' was an exception. It was very famous, and I was particularly curious about Kim Go-eun's performance.
I've seen Kim Go-eun in the movie 'Eungyo' and the drama 'Goblin,' and both left an unforgettable impression on me. In 'Eungyo,' Kim Go-eun played the role of the innocent and pure girl, 'Eungyo,' and in 'Goblin,' she played the spirited and lovely 'Eun-tak.' In both works, Kim Go-eun flawlessly portrayed the characters with her exceptional acting skills.
In 'Pamyo,' Kim Go-eun underwent a transformation in her acting, taking on the role of 'Hwarym,' a shaman in an occult genre. While watching the movie, I was once again amazed by her delicate emotional expressions and powerful acting. Particularly, the scenes where Hwarym performs a Gut (shamanic ritual) were very impressive.
The latter part of the movie unfolds with a suspenseful story. Hwarym and her colleagues fight against evil spirits and strive to prevent Japan's evil deeds through the 'Pamyo' ritual. Despite the scary scenes, I was able to watch the movie until the end without losing my immersion.
'Pamyo' is a movie that I would recommend not only to those who enjoy horror films but also to those interested in Korean history and culture. I wish there would be a sequel, but I'm not sure if it will happen.
